Janine focuses her practice on transactional, regulatory, and litigation work, with an emphasis on advertising, marketing and media. Because she began practicing as a litigator and transitioned into a transactional practice, she brings a unique and holistic perspective to any project whether litigation-based or transactional.
Janine attended University of California, Los Angeles. She received her Juris Doctor from University of Miami School of Law in 2009 where she graduated magna cum laude and served as Executive Editor of the Business Law Review.
After law school, Janine joined Snell & Wilmer, where she represented manufacturers of pharmaceuticals and motor vehicles in consumer protection and advertising matters. There, she was responsible for seeing matters through from law and motion work to assisting with all phases of discovery, including responding to written discovery, taking depositions, review of electronically stored information, and preparing and responding to motions to compel. Janine attended multiple mediations and successfully settled many high-stakes litigation matters.
Janine subsequently joined Manatt, Phelps & Phillips as an associate in their advertising, marketing and media group. Her practice was largely focused counseling clients on national advertising campaigns that were subject to inquiries by the Federal Trade Commission and single or multistate enforcement actions by state Attorneys General. Janine was responsible for managing discovery involving extensive review of electronically stored information, coordinating with litigation teams when civil litigation overlapped with a regulatory investigation, researching and negotiating settlement terms, and then facilitating new business practices necessary to comply with the settlement terms.
Most recently, Janine was a partner at Bird Law Group where she provided general counsel advice and advocacy, focusing on cannabis compliance. She counseled clients on business formation, licensing, contract review and negotiations, advertising, and consumer protection issues.
Throughout her career, pro bono has always been a big part of Janine’s practice. She worked closely with the Public Law Center on several cases promoting immigration equality. Her contribution to pro bono immigration matters Mondragon-Alday v. Lynch and Hernandez v. Lynch resulted in a published Ninth Circuit opinion granting relief for her clients under the Convention Against Torture. Janine was named a 2016 California Lawyer Attorney of the Year in Immigration in recognition of her work on these cases.
Janine affiliated with Montage Legal Group’s freelance attorney platform in 2021. She is admitted to practice law in California.
